Kapiti Junction is the newest addition to the family of Monteith's Bars in New Zealand. Others include The Tasting Room in Wellington City and The Drake in Freemans Bay, Auckland. The beer is a long way from its origins in the Deep South and family-owned Phoenix Brewery, but it's been cleverly reinvented and travelled the distance well.
The design of the 410sqm bar is contemporary and confident but still uses earthy tones to ensure that there is a warmth and cosiness to the bar. There is a strong link to the Kapiti Coast's railway heritage within the design of the bar, with prominent use of railway sleepers and some grand old images of some hard men working on the main trunk line when it was first built through this region.
Like all Monteith's bars, Kapiti Junction also has a comprehensive gastro pub menu, although the owners are quick to point out that unlike Wellington City you won't be expected to pay $35 for a meal - most of the meals in Kapiti Junction cost under $25. A full weekend brunch menu is available from 10am to 3pm on Saturday and Sunday.
Features of the bar include a garden bar with an outside toilet, a big screen, two TVs, heaters for those cooler nights, and a mist shower to cool yourself down on those hot summer days. Live music is played in the garden bar every Sunday afternoon in summer ranging in genre from Acoustic to Jazz.
Regular events such as a weekly quiz night, ‘kids dine free' evenings, Summer Sundays in the G Bar, free sausage sizzle every Friday and Sunday, and a Loyalty Club night where there are specials offered to people who have elected to take up the free membership to the club.
Free WIFI internet access is available to customers so they can check their emails, surf the Web, dial into work or update their Twitter account.
Once the sporting season gets into full swing, people will find they can watch their favourite sports on any of the bar's 11 television screens or on two of their big screens with the Hurricane and All Black games having live music straight after they finish to let people celebrate their team's victory with a boogie.
In fact, Monteith's Kapiti Junction has a range of live music Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday with Saturday night's band often from around the lower North Island.
To cap it off, they have a fully contained function room which can provide corporate AV facilities during the day and a seated dinner for 20-60 people, or cocktails and canapés for 80 people. Either way you look at it, this bar has been designed so that a whole range of people can use it for a variety of reasons. A bar that is everything to everyone. And with this in mind, the friendly team of staff are totally dedicated to creating great customer experiences for everyone who walks in the door.
